KnowMyFace Cookie Policy

How KnowMyFace uses essential cookies, local storage, and locally saved photo data

Overview

This Cookie Policy explains how KnowMyFace uses cookies and similar browser storage. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.

On the production website, analytics services help us understand site use and Google Ads helps us measure purchases. Analytics scripts are disabled on localhost and other local development addresses.

Essential Cookies

KnowMyFace uses essential cookies for functions that cannot work reliably without them:

  • Visitor session: a private credential connects a guest browser to its own analysis and normally expires after up to 7 days.
  • Account session: if you sign in, an authentication cookie keeps the account session active and protected. The normal account session period is up to 7 days.
  • Security and request handling: short-lived values may be used to protect sign-in and other sensitive requests.
  • Interface state: authenticated areas may remember whether navigation is open or collapsed.

These cookies do not make a private face report public. Blocking them can prevent analysis access, sign-in, or account features from working.

Analytics and Advertising

Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Plausible, and Umami may receive browser and device details, approximate location derived from network information, visited page URLs, interaction data, and performance information. They may use cookies or similar browser storage under their own policies.

Google Ads can store advertising data and measure a confirmed purchase. If enhanced conversions are enabled, the checkout email is normalized and SHA-256 hashed in the browser before it is sent to Google; Google does not receive the plain-text email through this event.

Local Storage and Indexed Browser Data

KnowMyFace also uses browser storage that is not technically a cookie:

  • Locally saved prepared photo: when you choose a photo, the browser can save a prepared copy on your device so you can continue or reuse it without choosing the file again. The short-term expiry refreshes when reused and never extends beyond 30 days from the original save.
  • Photo reference: local storage remembers whether a prepared photo is available in the browser database.
  • Theme and language preferences: local storage can remember display choices for future visits.
  • In-progress state: local storage may remember an active operation so the interface can continue after navigation or refresh.

Use Remove saved photo in the upload interface to delete the prepared photo and its reference. You can also clear KnowMyFace site data in your browser settings.

Payment and External Pages

If you follow a secure checkout or another external service link, that provider may use cookies under its own policy. Cookies set on an external domain are controlled by that provider, not by KnowMyFace.

Managing Browser Data

Most browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies and local site data. You can usually:

  • delete KnowMyFace cookies and stored site data;
  • block all or selected cookies;
  • clear the prepared photo saved by your browser; and
  • prevent local storage by using browser privacy controls.

Blocking essential storage can sign you out, break access to a guest report, or require you to choose a photo again. Deleting browser data does not automatically delete a report already stored with your account; use My Reports or contact us for help with account deletion.

Policy Changes

We may update this policy if our browser-storage practices change. We will update this page and add any choices required by applicable rules before introducing other optional services.
